HC Deb 15 March 1860 vol 157 c647
SIR STAFFORD NORTHCOTE

said, he wished to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether any arrangement has been made with the Wine Merchants regarding a Drawback of the Duty on Wine in Stock?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

replied, that the Wine merchants were now engaged in considering the subject. They had thought fit to call a general meeting of the trade, giving notice to all dealers throughout the country. They had informed him that they would not be able to hold the meeting before Tuesday next, and until that meeting had been held he should not be able to make a communication to the House.
