HC Deb 05 June 1860 vol 158 c2051
MR. WYLD

said, he would beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty if it be the intention of the Government to furnish a ship or ships to survey the Northern Seas for the purpose of testing the practicability of laying a telegraphic cable from England to America by way of Scotland, the Feroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, and Labrador?

VISCOUNT PALMERSTON

said, the Government had no objection to furnish a ship to make investigations along part of the distance indicated by the hon. Member, not indeed as regarded all the stations, but at any rate as far as Iceland.
