AUGUSTUS SMITHsaid, he rose to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether a Bishop of the Episcopal Communion in Scotland can legally perform any episcopal functions in any diocese in England on behalf of the Bishop thereof? The Bishop of Exeter had very recently employed a Bishop of the Episcopal Church in Scotland for the performance of his duties. As he understood the law it was illegal for a Scotch Bishop to be so employed continuously, and he should be glad if the right hon. Gentleman would inform the House how the law really stood.
