§ MR. DISRAELI—Sir, I wish to make an inquiry of the noble Lord the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs in reference to the rumoured annexation of the Duchy of Savoy and the County of Nice to the Empire of France. The Chief Minister of the Crown, in "another place" has stated 263 that Her Majesty's Government have made a communication of their opinion on the subject of this annexation to the French Government. I wish to know whether this communication will he found among those Italian papers which have been promised, and which we await with great interest, and if not, whether the noble Lord will have any objection to lay it upon the Table?
§ LORD JOHN RUSSELL—Sir, the communication to which my noble Friend referred in "another place" was made in July last, and arose from a communication which the British Ambassador at Paris had received from our Minister in Switzerland, in which some alarm was expressed on the subject. As to the production of these papers, I would rather take a day or two to consider whether it can be done without inconvenience to the public service.
