EWARTsaid, he rose to ask the President of the Board of Trade, Whether, in the Treaty of Commerce with France, the English or the French is understood to be the correct version of Article 10,"the privileges, favours, or advantages granted to national vessels" being stated in the English version to be granted "generally," while in the French they are stated to be granted"sans exception."
§ MR. MILNER GIBSONsaid, he believed it was understood that the French and English versions of Article 10 of the Commercial Treaty with France had exactly the same meaning. The precise words perhaps might not appear to correspond, but the general meaning of the two versions was exactly the same. He begged to assure the hon. Member that neither by the English nor by the French version would the privileges of the freemen of Liverpool, as regarded their exemption from certain local dues, be affected.
