HC Deb 08 February 1860 vol 156 c682

Order for Second Reading read.

MR. JOHN LOCKE

said he rose to move the second reading of this Bill, which was in substance the same as the Bill brought forward last Session on this subject.

Motion made, and Question proposed, "That the Bill be now read a second time."

MR. BOVILL

observed, that a Bill of this sort had passed through the House of Lords last Session, and he thought that the present measure should be postponed until the profession of solicitors had an opportunity of considering its provisions. The reason he asked for postponement was because in this Bill twenty-three clauses had been struck out of the Bill carried in the Upper House, and some of these twenty-three clauses were looked upon by solicitors as having a very important bearing.

Debate arising; Debate adjourned till To-morrow.
