§ VISCOUNT PALMERSTON:Sir, it is quite true that Abd-el-Kader and a Druse Chief—I do not know that it was a lady—did save the lives of a very considerable number of Christians, and the Government have directed the Consul at that place to convey to Abd-el-Kader their thanks for and acknowledgments of the services which he had rendered to the Christian population.
