HC Deb 14 August 1860 vol 160 c1268
MR. HENNESSY

said, he wished to ask the Chief Secretary for Ireland, what compensation the Government propose to give to the Inspectors of Weights and Measures whose offices will be abolished under a Bill now before Parliament?

MR. CARDWELL

said, the office of Inspector of Weights and Measures was condemned under the Petty Sessions Act passed so far back as 1851, and the holders of that office were, therefore, not entitled to compensation.
