§ MR. WILLIAM LEATHAMsaid, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the Judges have reported on the West Riding Assize question; and, if so, whether it is his intention to lay the Report on the Table of the House?
SIR GEORGE LEWISsaid, he was not aware that the Judges had made any formal Report on the subject; but from a document he had found in the Home Office it appeared that the Judges had given to his Predecessor in office their opinion that with respect to the expediency of holding the Assizes for the West Riding at Leeds they agreed in the unanimous judgment of the Commissioners appointed by Her Majesty to consider the question that it would not be expedient with a view to the administration of justice.
