§ GENERAL BUCKLEYasked the Secretary of the Treasury whether he has had any representation from Surveyors of Taxes respecting their salaries; and also respecting some fresh arrangements of the classification of their offices?
§ SIR STAFFORD NORTHCOTEsaid, that no representation had reached the Treasury on the subject, and he was informed that none had been made to the Commissioners of Inland Revenue. He had, however, received a pamphlet entitled "Statement of the case of the Surveyors of Taxes respectfully submitted to the consideration of Members of Parliament." That was, however, not the usual way of submitting a representation of the kind, nor, he must add, was it a very convenient mode to be adopted by any class of public servants for addressing the Government.
