said, he begged to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if it be true that Her Majesty's Government are about to grant a guarantee or subsidy to the Atlantic Telegraph Company; and, if so, upon what conditions?

said, that several applications had been made to the Treasury for a subsidy for the purpose referred to; but, as no Resolution had been come to of the kind mentioned by the hon. Gentleman, it was not in his power to answer the question.
