HC Deb 07 February 1859 vol 152 c143
VISCOUNT MELGUND

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether it is the intention of the Government to move for the appointment of a Select Committee to inquire into the effect of the laws regulating the Sale and Consumption of Spirituous Liquors in Scotland?

MR. WALPOLE

said, the subject had received his attention during the recess, and he had come to the conclusion that same inquiry into it was necessary. Whether this ought to be by a Committee or by a Commission he was not at present quite clear, and he could not therefore give a decided answer to the question.
