HC Deb 14 April 1859 vol 153 cc1727-8
GENERAL CODRINGTON

said, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for India, the date of the receipt in England of the Despatch from the Commander-in-Chief in India of the 20th day of December, 1857, referring to the actions fought under the command of Major General Windham at Cawnpore, on the 26th, 27th, and 28th days of November, 1857?

LORD STANLEY

said, there had been two Despatches from the Commander-in-Chief on the subject of that action, written on the 2nd and 20th of December, which were published in the Calcutta Gazettes of the 13th and 24th of December; both gazettes reached this country together on the 15th of February last. He took it for granted, however, that some earlier communication must have been received.
