§ MR. DILLWYNsaid, he had presented a large number of petitions in favour of this Bill, but at the same time he did not intend to press it during the present Session. He merely wished to say with reference to the many attacks which had been made on the Bill in the papers and at public meetings, to the effect that it was an aggression on the Church of England, that, in point of fact, it was the Church which had, in the first instance, assumed the aggressive towards the Dissenters. The action of the latter was merely defensive, and as it was understood that the aggressive action of the Church was to be persisted in, it was necessary that some legislative measure should be interposed to prevent it.
