§ SIR JAMES ELPHINSTONEsaid, he would beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in consequence of the final Report of the Civil Service Superannuation Commissioners being now laid on the Table of this House, which again recommends several important alterations to be made, he is prepared to bring in a Bill this Session in accordance with suggestions of said Report.
§ MR. G. A. HAMILTONSir, on behalf of my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer, I beg to state, in reply to the question of the hon. Baronet, that a measure is in preparation on the subject referred to. The question, however, is one of some difficulty. Soon after the holidays we hope to be enabled to lay a Bill upon the table of the House.
§ MR. GLADSTONEsaid, in reference to the same subject, he found that the Report of the Civil Service Commissioners recommend the abolition of certain deductions, and likewise that the salaries of officers in different classes should not be subject to certain deductions. He wanted to know whether those recommendations would be carried out in the now measure.
MR. G. A. HAMILIONsaid, that a statement as to the nature of the measure would be made to the House at the earliest moment.
