HC Deb 16 February 1858 vol 148 c1473
MR. BLAND

said, he would beg to ask the Chief Secretary for Ireland, whether the Government intend to introduce any measure this Session respecting the management of Lunatic Asylums in Ireland?

MR. H. A. HERBERT

I cannot, Sir, pledge myself that the Government will introduce a measure on the subject this Session. Three days ago I received a letter from Sir Thomas Redington, stating his regret that the Commission which had been appointed to inquire into this subject had not yet made their Report, and required an extension of time for that purpose. I cannot, therefore, make any pledge on the subject.
