HC Deb 26 April 1858 vol 149 cc1748-9
MR. BAINES

moved, that leave be given for the Corporation of the City of London to be heard by Counsel before the Select Committee on the London Corporation Regulation Bill against Clause 66 of the said Bill.

MR. WYLD

suggested, that as the Corporation was to be heard by counsel before the Select Committee, the proceedings should no longer be private, but should be conducted with open doors.

MR. WALPOLE

said, he did not think that any advantage would be gained by carrying on the deliberations of the Committee in private.

MR. COX

knew that many of the citizens of London, as distinguished from the Corporation, desired to give evidence before the Committee, and to be represented by counsel. He thought, therefore, that the Committee ought to be an open one.

Motion agreed to.

Ordered,That leave be given for the Corporation of the City of London to be heard by Counsel before the Select Committee on the London Corporation Regulation Bill, against Clause 66 of the said Bill.

House adjourned at a Quarter after One o'clock.
