MAJOR KNOXsaid, he would beg to ask the hon. Gentleman the Under Secretary for War whether a major, having been promoted to the rank of brevet lieutenant colonel for service in the field, is entitled (having afterwards succeeded to the command of his regiment) to reckon his service as brevet lieutenant colonel towards his promotion to the rank of colonel, although he was not in command of his regiment during that time.
