HC Deb 19 June 1857 vol 146 cc24-5
MR. W. EWART

said, he wished to ask the Under Secretary of the War Department whether there will be any objection to print hereafter an amended copy of the Return made this Session relative to the service of officers in the Crimea, in consequence of the accidental omission of certain names in that Return.

SIR JOHN RAMSDEN

said, the Return which was ordered by the House of Commons directed that the names of all the officers should be published who had remained in the Crimea from the first landing of the troops to the conclusion of the war, with the exception of intervals of leave of absence for sickness or other causes. A doubt had arisen as to whether the names should be given of the officers who did not go with the expedition at first, but who went at a subsequent period and remained to the end of the war, except when absent by leave or through sickness. That was the reason for the omission to which the hon. Member had alluded. Several representations had been made to him (Sir J. Ramsden) on the subject by hon. Gentlemen in this House. Those representations had been submitted to the noble Lord the Secretary at War, and instructions had been given for the publication of a Supplemental Return, which would be laid before the House as soon as it was ready.
