§ On the Motion for going into Committee of Supply,
COLONEL NORTHsaid, in the absence of his hon. and gallant Friend (General Windham,) he would beg to ask, whether, when a clergyman entered the army as 1392 Assistant Chaplain, his service counted for his retirement in the same way as that of an Assistant Surgeon; and, if not, what was the reason?
§ SIR JOHN RAMSDENreplied, that the services of Assistant Chaplains did not count in the same way as those of Assistant Surgeons, because, while the latter were commissioned officers, Assistant Chaplains only held temporary appointments.
