HC Deb 04 August 1857 vol 147 c1010
MR. LAURIE

said, he would beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, If the Government can be induced to adopt the Bay at Barnstaple as a Harbour of Refuge, so necessary for the West Coast, there being no Harbour less distance than one hundred and forty miles from the British Channel; and whether he will permit evidence to be taken before the Committee now sitting on Harbours of Refuge, of which he is Chairman.

MR. WILSON

said, the case of Barn-staple had not been brought before the Government, and, with regard to the reception of evidence by the Committee, it would depend entirely on the Committee itself what cases they would consider. If the subject were brought forward next Session he would not oppose an inquiry.
