HC Deb 05 June 1856 vol 142 c979
MR. DISRAELI

Seeing the noble Lord the First Minister of the Crown in his place, I will take this opportunity of inquiring whether it be true that Her Majesty's Minister at Washington has quitted that capital at the request of the President of the United States; and, if true, whether it is the intention of the Government to make any statement to the House to-day as to the relations at present existing between this country and the United States of America?

VISCOUNT PALMERSTON

Indirectly Her Majesty's Government have received intimation of the fact to which the question of the right hon. Gentleman refers—namely, that Mr. Crampton had received his passports, and had quitted Washington for Toronto. Nothing from him has been received as yet; and I have no further statement to make at present.
