§ MR. WARNERsaid, he wished to ask the right hon. Gentleman the Chancellor of the Exchequer, whether the Government were about to take measures for carrying into effect the Resolution of the House of last Session in favour of a further adaptation of the coinage to the decimal system?
THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUERSir, in reply I beg to state that the Government have taken steps in consequence of the resolution to which my hon. Friend has alluded. A Commission has been issued under the Great Seal to three persons qualified to inquire into the 834 subject, namely, Lord Monteagle, Controller of the Exchequer, Lord Overstone, and Mr. Hubbard, late Governor of the Bank of England. These Commissioners are now acting in discharge of their duties, and the subject is under their consideration. In due time they will make a Report, which will be laid before Parliament.
