HC Deb 11 April 1856 vol 141 c872
MR. KINNAIRD

said, he would bog to ask the right hon. Baronet the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether it was the intention of Her Majesty's Government to grant a new Charter of Incorporation and Act to the Royal College of Physicians of London; and, if so, whether they were likely to be granted during the present Session of Parliament?

SIR GEORGE GREY

said, that a petition had been presented by the Royal College of Physicians, praying that their charter might be amended, which it was desirable should be granted, so as to enable them effectually to carry out certain requirements of the medical Bill of the hon. Member for Newcastle (Mr. Head-lam) which had then been read a second time. That Bill had now been referred to a Select Committee, and therefore the Government had come to no decision with regard to the charter, as it was desirable to wait for the Report of that Committee.
