The House met; and the Clerk at the Table acquainted the House, that he had received a Letter from Mr. Speaker, together with a Medical Certificate, which he read to the House, as follow:—

"89, Eaton Square,

"Monday, June 4, 1855."

SIR,—I trust that the enclosed Certificate from the Surgeon who has been attending me during my indisposition will satisfy the House with regard to the cause of my unavoidable absence on the present occasion. I can only express my sincere regret at being thus prevented attending the service of the House.

"I hereby certify that the Speaker has sprained his leg in mounting his horse. A considerable amount of inflammation has resulted from the injury, which has not yet sufficiently subsided to enable him to take the Chair.

Whereupon Mr. FITZROY, the Chairman of the Committee of Ways and Means, having counted the House, took the Chair, according to the Resolution of this House.
