§ THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUERsaid, he would now move for leave to introduce a Bill to explain and amend an Act of the last Session of Parliament relating to the duties of Assessed Taxes. The object of this Bill was twofold. It was intended, in the first place, to correct two clerical errors in the headings of the schedules which had crept into the Act of last Session, and it was intended also to extend the time for surrendering compositions. The Act of last Session fixed the 10th of October, 1853, as the last day for doing this; but as it appeared that a number of persons had omitted to avail themselves of the opportunity thus given them, it was proposed, in accordance with former precedents, still further to extend the time.
§ Bill ordered to be brought in by Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer and Mr. Wilson.
§ Bill presented, and read 1°.
