HC Deb 02 May 1853 vol 126 cc911-2
LORD ADOLPHUSVANE

said he wished to ask the right hon. the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the legacy duty on successions would extend to property of all descriptions, whether under settlement or under trust?

The CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

was not aware of any distinction with reference to property under settlement and property under trust. He meant to take away the exemption of property under settlement, and such property would have no preference over any other kind of property.
