MR. VERNON SMITHappeared at the bar with the Report of the Select Committee of Inquiry on the petition against the return for the Borough of Cambridge. The Report stated that the Committee have determined that Kenneth Macaulay and John Harvey Astell, Esqs., were not elected Burgesses to serve in the present Parliament for the Borough of Cambridge; that the last Election for the said Borough is a void Election; and that the Select Committee had come to the 801 following Resolution:—That Kenneth Macaulay and John Harvey Astell, Esqs., were by their agents guilty of bribery at the last Election. He had further to state that the Committee were of opinion there was reason to believe corrupt practices had extensively prevailed at the last Election for the Borough of Cambridge.
