HC Deb 09 June 1853 vol 127 c1299
MR. BRAMSTON

appeared at the bar, and reported to the House that the Durham Election Committee had decided— That Lord Adolphus Vane is not duly elected a Citizen to serve in this present Parliament for the City of Durham. That the last Election for the said City is a Void Election. And the said Determinations were ordered to be entered in the Journals of this House.

House further informed, that the Committee had agreed to the following Resolutions:— That Lord Adolphus Vane was, by his agents, guilty of bribery at the last Election. That it was proved to the Committee, that John Nicholson Atkinson was bribed by the payment of five pounds, but that it was not proved that such bribery was committed with the knowledge or consent of the Sitting Member.
