HC Deb 11 February 1851 vol 114 c450
MR. W. WILLIAMS

moved for leave to bring in a Bill to prevent unnecessary trading on Sunday within the metropolitan police district and city of London, and liberties thereof.

MR. B. WALL

would oppose the introduction of a Bill on the subject at so late an hour. It was the same Bill the House had rejected last year. [Mr. WILLIAMS: No!] If not, it was the more necessary to oppose its introduction at such a time of night.

LORD D. STUART

expressed his opinion that this opposition to the first reading of the Bill was very ungracious.

Motion made, and Question put, "That leave be given to bring in the Bill."

The House divided:—Ayes 70; Noes 19: Majority 51.

Bill ordered to be brought in by Mr. W. Williams and Mr. Kershaw.

The House adjourned at half after Twelve o'clock.
