HC Deb 20 March 1849 vol 103 cc1031-2

MR. VERNON SMITH moved— For a Copy of any Report of the Commissioners of Audit to the Treasury, upon the Despatches referred to them by a Treasury Minute of the 2nd day of May, 1848, of Sir Henry Pottinger, relating to the great Irregularities which, in his Excellency's opinion, existed in the System of Paying and Maintaining the Native Levies at the Cape of Good Hope, and generally in the Public Expenditure occasioned by the Kafir War.

The CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

said, that a report had been received on this subject, but it was only a preliminary report. Nevertheless, if the hon. Gentleman desired its production before it could be presented in connexion with the further reports that might follow it, there could be no possible objection to complying with this Motion.

Motion agreed to.
