§ COLONEL DUNNEwished to know from the right hon. Gentleman the Secretary for Ireland, for how long a period he was going to propose the continuance of the vice-guardians?
§ SIR W. SOMERVILLEreplied, that he proposed their continuance up to the 25th of March, 1850.
Mr. HERBERT, Mr. O'FLAHERTY, and Major BLACKALL, opposed their continuance for so long a period, when the Committee that was now sitting might make great alterations in the poor-law system.
§ MR. MONSELLproposed, that the period should be the 29th of September, 1849.
§ Motion made, and Question put, "That the blank he filled with the words 'twenty-fifth day of March, 1850:'"—The Committee divided:—Ayes 51; Noes 31: Majority 20.
§ Bill reported; consideration, with Amendments, on Wednesday.
