HC Deb 06 December 1847 vol 95 c701
MR. OSBORNE

inquired whether Government had received information which would prevent, or render unnecessary, any mediation, on the part of this country, between the contending parties in Switzerland?

VISCOUNT PALMERSTON

replied, that information had been received which showed that the civil war in Switzerland was in point of fact at an end. Now, as mediation meant an interposition between two contending parties, it was evident that when there was an end of contention, there must also be an end of mediation.
