HC Deb 10 February 1844 vol 72 cc471-2
Mr. W. E. Gladstone

inquired of the hon. Gentleman opposite (Mr. Wallace) whether he intended to persevere with his motion with respect to not placing upon the Railway Committee, Directors of, and Shareholders in, Railways.

Mr. Wallace

said, the course he in- tended to pursue was, to move an instruction to the Committee, which instruction he should put on the Notice Paper tonight, declaring the principle which in his judgment ought to guide the House in this matter.

Mr. Gladstone

, under these circumstances, begged then to move the Committee be nominated.

Captain Pechell

said, that he had received instructions from his constituents to oppose the appointment of Directors and Shareholders to serve on the Committee, for which he knew they had good reason.

Motion agreed to, and Committee appointed.
