HC Deb 21 March 1842 vol 61 cc935-6
Sir D. Norreys

inquired, whether the right hon. Baronet, the Secretary of State for the Home Department, could give the House any information relative to the removal of Scotch and Irish paupers from England. The subject had excited very strong feelings in Ireland.

Sir J. Graham

said, with respect to the removal of Irish and Scottish paupers, the Poor-law Commissioners had instituted inquiries throughout the counties of Eng land and Wales, and a very considerable mass of information had already been collected. The report was not yet completed, but in the course of two or three months, he thought it would be ready to be laid on the Table. The law of settlement wag altogether distinct from the measure he intended to introduce after Easter.
