HC Deb 19 February 1841 vol 56 c761
Mr. Hawes

wished to know whether government intended to bring forward any measure for the reform of the ecclesiastical courts as regarded church rates? It was of great importance that the jurisdiction of those courts in this respect should be limited.

Lord J. Russell

answered that a measure upon the subject had been agreed upon, and would be brought forward by the Lord Chancellor in the House of Lords. Whether it might not be necessary also to introduce a bill regarding church rates into the House of Commons, he was not prepared to say.
