The House in Committee on the Metropolis Improvements Bill.

Mr. E. J. Stanley

stated, that it was proposed to raise 150,000l. by Exchequer Bills on the additional coal duties, for the purpose of carrying out the Coventry, street, and other improvements in the metropolis.

Mr. Hawes

complained, that no portion of that sum had been appropriated to the improvement of Lambeth, which so considerably contributed to the fund from which it was to he derived.

Mr. Goulburn

must put in a similar claim on behalf of the rural districts of Surrey, which also contributed to the fund.

Bill passed through Committee.
