HC Deb 01 April 1841 vol 57 c772

Viscount Morpeth moved for a Committee to consider of the propriety of authorising the Commissioners of Wide Streets to sell, and her Majesty to purchase, certain hereditaments in the city of Dublin, on the north bank of the river Anna Liffey. The noble Lord stated, that the object of the bill was to open the space between the Royal Barracks and the Liffey, which would be a material improvement in the appearance of the city of Dublin, and would contribute most essentially to the healthfulness and safety of the inhabitants.

Sir R. Peel

inquired whether the ground thus purchased would be appropriated in any way to the recreation of the people of Dublin.

Viscount Morpeth

replied, that it would be used both for the exercise of the troops and the recreation of the inhabitants.

Motion agreed to, Committee on the following day.
