§ The Sheriffs of London presented petitions from the Corporation of London respecting the South Durham and Dover Railway Bills.
Mr. Alderman Wood, in moving that these petitions be printed, adverted to efforts made in the city of London and elsewhere to prevent the formation of plans that would facilitate the supply of coals to the metropolis and its neighbourhood; an intimidation of no ordinary character was resorted to; but he said, intimidation would not prevent him from the performance of his duty, and from endeavouring to secure 587 for the metropolis a full and cheap supply of coal.
§ Petitions ordered to lie on the table.
