HC Deb 03 June 1834 vol 24 c142
Mr. Charles Grant

, in moving for the appointment of a Select Committee to inquire into the best means of promoting the communication with India by steam, observed, that the East-India Company had not neglected its duty on this important subject. The Company had employed a vessel to survey the coasts, and had already established steam navigation between Bombay and the Red Sea. Two routes had been pointed out, one by the Red Set, another by the Euphrates; and the consideration of which was the better of the two would form an interesting subject of inquiry in the Committee. He would then only move for its appointment.

Mr. Hume

supported the Motion, and expressed his thanks to the right hon. Gentleman for the trouble and interest he had taken on the subject.

The Committee was appointed.
