Lord Palmerston,

seeing the hon. Member for Carmarthen in his place (Mr. R. Trevor), rose to request him to postpone the motion of which he had given notice, respecting an alleged libellous publication, because the noble Lord who represented the Government in that House was unavoidably absent on, account of a family misfortune.

Mr. R. Trevor

expressed his readiness to accede to the request of the noble Lord. The hon. Member was about to state the reasons which induced him to bring forward the question, when he was called to order by

The Speaker,

who informed the hon. Member that, as he did not intend to persevere in his motion, he could not at that time enter into a discussion on it.

Mr. Trevor

postponed it to Thursday.
