HC Deb 09 February 1821 vol 4 c553
Mr. Lambton

, seeing the president of the Board of Control in his place, begged to ask him a question relative to a report which was prevalent in India, namely, that it was the intention of his majesty's government to put in full force the censorship of the press, which had been removed by the marquis of Hastings. He wished to know whether such was the intention of his majesty's government?

Mr. Bathurst

said, he could assure the hon. member that there existed no such intention on the part of government [Hear!]. The regulations made by the marquis of Hastings were in full force, and it was the intention of government that they should remain so.

Mr. Lambton

expressed himself perfectly satisfied with the answer of the right hon. gentleman.
