HC Deb 09 April 1804 vol 22 c1591
MR. ARCHIBALD GROVE (West Ham, N.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War if he could state what facilities are offered to the Army Temperance Associations for establishing canteens in the various Military Centres; and whether it would be possible to establish a temperance canteen with every regiment, or at every Military Centre?

* THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (Mr. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN,&c.) Stirling,

There is already in every barrack what is practically a temperance canteen—namely, the room where non-intoxicants are sold—under Article 84 of Section 15 of the Queen's Regulations. We have also included in the Estimates for this year a sum of £500 as a grant-in-aid of the Army Temperance Association, and our desire is to assist that Association to the full extent of our power in extending its operations in this country.
