HC Deb 09 April 1804 vol 22 c1577
COLONEL HOWARD VINCENT (Sheffield, Central)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty if the boilers of the Powerful now being built are to come from France; and, if so, why they are not to be obtained from England; and if the contract makes any provision that English materials shall be used as far as possible in the construction of the vessel, or that the Resolution of the House in 1891 as to fair wages and fair hours shall be observed?

SIR U. KAY-SHUTTLEWORTH

The boilers of the Powerful will be built by an English firm. Materials of British manufacture will be used as far as possible in constructing the ship. The contract provides for giving effect to the Resolution of the House.
