HC Deb 10 November 1970 vol 806 cc197-8
45. Mr. Farr

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will provide factilities for elderly inhabitants and others in the villages of southern Leicestershire, who are prevented by the absence of public transport from drawing their retirement pensions and receiving other social services.

Mr. Dean

There are already facilities for pensioners who cannot easiy get to a post office to nominate someone else to collect their payment for them.

Mr. Farr

Is my hon. Friend aware that in Leicestershire some people have to walk up to three miles to get their pensions? Will he arrange either for the pensions to be delivered by post or for a mobile post office service to be provided?

Mr. Dean

We hope to improve the arrangements when the payments are fully computerised. However, if my hon. Friend would like to send me details of the particular point he has in mind, I will gladly look into it.
