HC Deb 09 October 1940 vol 365 c357
14. Mr. Wedgwood

asked the Minister of Information, whether, in view of recent political changes in Europe, he will consider substituting broadcasts in Icelandic for broadcasts in Rumanian, Hungarian or Finnish; and whether the American Government will be approached to help in this respect?

The Minister of Information (Mr. Duff Cooper)

The possibility of including broadcasts in Icelandic is being considered, but I can give no guarantee at present that it will be practicable to introduce them in the near future. There is no present intention of discontinuing the broadcasts in Rumanian, Hungarian or Finnish. There seems to be no need to approach the American Government in the matter.

Mr. Wedgwood

Would it not be advisable to discontinue the broadcasts in Hungarian, Rumanian and Finnish, seeing that those countries do as our enemies tell them?

Mr. Cooper

I think it is all the more important that they should be allowed to hear the truth.
