HC Deb 05 June 1940 vol 361 c837
21. Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs, what reply has been received from the Government of South Africa to the suggestion made to them that South Africa should assume responsibility for giving asylum to Dutch refugees from the Nazi invasion of Holland?

The Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs (Mr. Shakespeare)

I understand that the Union Government would be prepared to examine sympathetically any concrete proposals put forward. Certain proposals are at present under consideration, but it is not yet possible to make a statement in the matter.
