MR. SUMMERBELL

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that a riot recently took place among the indentured coolies on Perseverance Estate, Couva, Trinidad, resulting in the murder of William M'Kenzie, senior overseer; that discontent exists among the indentured coolies, seventy from the Kleinwort Estate being charged at the Couva police court during January, February, and March for various offences; and, if so, will he order an investigation into the whole of the circumstances.

No information has as yet boon received on the subject of the riot referred to, but the Governor will be asked for a Report on the matters referred to in the hon. Member's Question.
