HC Deb 19 May 1884 vol 288 c658
MR. JERNINGHAM

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether he can now lay before the House Papers respecting affairs in Central Asia of a later date than the 25th of January last; and, especially, whether he can at an early date present, for the information of Members, the Correspondence of Her Majesty's Government with the Government of Russia respecting the reported cession of Sarakhs to that country?

LORD EDMOND FITZMAURICE

I regret that I am unable to lay upon the Table at the present moment the Papers for which my hon. Friend asks. The usual practice makes it inexpedient to do so until the Correspondence on the subject is concluded.

MR. ASHMEAD-BARTLETT

In reference to this question, may I ask the noble Lord whether he can inform the House how many hundred miles the Russian Forces have advanced towards India since the present Government came into Office?

LORD EDMOND FITZMAURICE

I must ask for Notice of that Question.
