- Used for budget, or money allocated or available to fund something.
For money already spent: prefer Expenditure to Public expenditure for money spent on specific items such as State retirement pensions. Use Public expenditure for the spending of whole departments and whole countries (Scotland, etc). Also use Public expenditure, rather than Expenditure, for spending by Government departments on a series of things such as hospitality, cars and stationery.
